OpenAI to Release a TikTok-Like App

Ana sayfa / News

According to a report, OpenAI is preparing to launch a new social app similar to TikTok with the soon-to-be-announced Sora 2 video model. The app, which will feature vertical video streaming and swipe navigation, will feature only AI-generated content. Users will not be able to upload photos or videos from their phones.

According to the report, Sora 2 will be limited to producing clips of up to 10 seconds in the app. The extent to which the model will be restricted outside of the app is unclear. TikTok’s initial 15-second limit, later expanding it to 10 minutes, makes this difference noteworthy. It’s also stated that the new app will include identity verification, allowing users to use their likenesses in videos if they consent. If others use these likenesses in their videos, the content owner will be notified.

The source emphasizes that the app will refuse to produce certain content due to copyright restrictions, but the effectiveness of these protections is questionable. The Wall Street Journal reports that OpenAI will submit requests to rights holders to exclude their content from Sora 2 videos.

OpenAI’s move into social media stems from uncertainty surrounding TikTok’s future in the US. The company reportedly sees an opportunity in this gap, following President Trump’s repeated extensions of the deadline for ByteDance to divest its US business. By doing so, OpenAI aims to add a social dimension to Sora, making it harder for users to turn to competing models due to the community connection.
